MARCH 2024

MARCH

March is traditionally associated with St. Patrick’s day and for good reason.  St. Patrick’s Day has been celebrated in the United States since the late 18th century.  One of the oldest St. Patrick’s Day parade took place in New York City in 1762, organized by Irish soldiers serving in the British army.  Over time, the holiday evolved into a celebration of Irish culture and heritage, with parades, festivals, and traditional Irish music and dance being central to the festivities. Today, St. Patrick’s Day is widely celebrated across the US.
Several cities across the United States hold St. Patrick’s Day parades. Some of the most notable ones include:
1. New York City, New York: The St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York City is one of the oldest and largest in the world, dating back to 1762.
2. Boston, Massachusetts: Boston’s St. Patrick’s Day parade is also one of the oldest in the United States, dating back to 1737.
3. Chicago, Illinois: The Chicago St. Patrick’s Day parade is famous for dyeing the Chicago River green and attracts millions of spectators each year.
4. Savannah, Georgia: Savannah hosts one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the American South, known for its Southern hospitality and festive atmosphere.
5. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Philadelphia’s St. Patrick’s Day parade is one of the oldest in the country and features elaborate floats, marching bands, and Irish dancers.
